Community HOPE

Community HOPE (Health Outreach, Promotion, and Education) is a community based health initiative for the ChicagolandFilipino American community.  The goals of Community HOPE are to promote basic community health education and disease prevention in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner and to empower community members to become equal partners in their health and well-being.  Community HOPE is committed to leadership training and community health education to develop lay health promoters in the Chicagoland Filipino American community.  This is the pilot year of Community HOPE.

Community HOPE is a joint collaboration of the Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment (AFIRE) and the Filipino American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC) under the sponsorship of Coalition of African, Arab, Asian, European, and Latino Immigrants of Illinois (CAAAELII).  Community HOPE is part the first Asian American partnership of AFIRE, KACS, and Hanul Family Alliance working with the Promesa Coalition (Illinois Association of Community Health Promoters and Community Health Workers) to promote health education in the Asian American communities.

Community HOPE curriculum includes:

  • Self-Esteem & Personal Development
  • Heart Health & Diabetes
  • Nutrition & Physical Fitness
  • Child & Adult Immunizations
  • Cancer Awareness and prevention
  • Mental Health & Domestic Violence Awareness
  • Tobacco, Alcohol & Drug Abuse & Prevention
  • Stress Management
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (worth $135)

Graduation: June 11 or June 19, 2010
Six sessions on Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Tuition: $45 for all six sessions, lunch included.

Scholarships available for unemployed and low-income students.

Community HOPE is in search of volunteer subject matter experts (SMEs) and curriculum developers to join the Community HOPE faculty.  Community HOPE faculty will develop curriculum and teach on specific community health topics at program sessions.  If you are interested in participating as faculty, please complete the form below and email it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
